On the morning of Simchat Torah, October 7, 2023, Ori was attending the Nova music festival in southern Israel. When the Hamas attack began, he managed to escape to safety. However, after receiving a phone call from partygoers he had met that night, he chose to return to the terrorist-infested area in order to rescue them, fully aware that he was putting his life at risk. Ori evacuated siblings Mia and Itay Regev and their friend Omer Shem-Tov in his car, until they were ambushed and captured by Hamas terrorists. Mia, Itay, and Omer were later returned to Israel as part of a hostage release deal.

During captivity, Ori demonstrated remarkable courage, determination, and profound love for others, expressed through his constant care for his fellow captives. On August 29, 2024, he was murdered in captivity alongside five other hostages: Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Eden Yerushalmi, Alex Lobanov, Almog Sarusi, and Carmel Gat. His body was returned to Israel, and he was laid to rest at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.

Ori's light, and his legacy of bravery, lifesaving and care of others that stands at the heart of his story, will serve as our guiding star in our mission to save lives and bring healing to patients around the world.
